Ranchi is 13:24. It is known that 20% of the males and 25% of the females cleared the exam. If the number of candidates who failed the exam is 142, determine the total number of candidates who appeared for the exam.Solution
Let the number of males and females who appeared in the exam be 13x and 24x respectively.
According to the question,
(0.8 × 13x) + (0.75 × 24x) = 142
Or, x = 142/28.4 = 5
