      Question

If 3 kg of metal, of which 1/4   is aluminium and the

rest is magnesium, be mixed with 5 kg of metal, of which  1/3 is aluminium and the rest is magnesium, then what is the ratio of aluminium to magnesium in the mixture?
      A 29 : 67 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      B 32 : 65 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      C 27 : 61 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      D 19 : 55 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      In the first metal mixture, Total quantity = 3 kg Quantity of aluminium = {1/4} x 3 = {3/4} kg Quantity of magnesium = 3 - {3/4} = {9/4} kg In the second metal mixture, Total quantity = 5 kg Quantity of aluminium = {1/3} x 5 ={5/3} kg Quantity of magnesium = 5 - {5/3} = {10/3} kg Now, Total quantity of aluminium in the final mixture = {3/4} + {5/3} = {29/12} kg Total quantity of magnesium in the final mixture = {9/4} + {10/3} = {67/12} kg So, required ratio of aluminium to magnesium = (29/12) : (67/12) = 29 : 67
