Question
The total income of 'X', 'Y', and 'Z' is Rs. 21000. They
spend 85%, 80%, and 75% of their incomes, and the ratio of their savings is 4:5:6. Calculate the total expenditure of 'X', 'Y', and 'Z'.Solution
ATQ, Let the incomes of ‘X’, ‘Y’, and ‘Z’ be Rs. x, Rs. y, and Rs. z. According to the question, 0.15x : 0.2y : 0.25z = 4 : 5 : 6 Or, x : y : z = (4/0.15) : (5/0.2) : (6/0.25) = 26.67 : 25 : 24 Sum of the ratios = 26.67 + 25 + 24 = 75.67 Therefore, income of ‘X’ = 21000 × (26.67/75.67) = Rs. 7435 Income of ‘Y’ = 21000 × (25/75.67) = Rs. 6966 Income of ‘Z’ = 21000 - (7435 + 6966) = Rs. 6599 Required sum = (0.85 × 7435) + (0.8 × 6966) + (0.75 × 6599) = 6320 + 5573 + 4949 = Rs.16842
