    Question

    I. 3p²  + 13p + 14 = 0 II. 8q²  + 26q + 21 =

0 In each of these questions two equations numbered I and II are given. You have to solve both the equations and give answer, if –
A p = q or relationship cannot be established between p and q. Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    B p > q Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    C p < q Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    D p ≥ q Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    I. 3p²  + 13p + 14 = 0 3p² + 7p  + 6p + 14 = 0 ⟹ p (3p + 7) + 2 (3p + 7) = 0      ⟹ (3p  + 7) (p + 2)= 0 ⟹ p = -7/3,  -2 II. 8q²  + 26q + 21 = 0 ⟹8q² + 14q + 12q + 21 =0 ⟹2q(4q  + 7) + 3(4q + 7)= 0 ⟹ (4q  + 7) (2q + 3)= 0 ⟹ q =  -7/4,  - 3/2 ∴p < q.
