Two friends Shyam and Ram, Shyam sold an item after
allowing two successive discounts of 20% and 15%, While Ram sold the same item after two successive discounts of 22% and 13%, respectively. Which of the two friends offered a higher discount?Solution
ATQ, When two successive discounts of 'a'% and 'b'% is offered the effective discount percentage offered is = a + b - {(ab/100) } Therefore, effective discount percentage offered by Shyam = 20 + 15 - {(20 × 15) /100} = 35 - 3 = 32% Effective discount percentage offered by Ram ' = 22 + 13 - {(22 × 13) /100} = 35 - 2.86 = 32.14% Therefore, Ram offered more discount.
