Question
A thief is spotted by a policeman from a distance of 600
m. The thief starts running at a speed of 20 km/h and the policeman chases him running at a speed of 25 km/h. Find the distance between them after 6 minutes (in metres).Solution
Speed of Thief = 20 km/h = 333.33 m/min Speed of Policeman= 25 km/h = 416.67 m/min Distances traveled in 6 minutes- Thief= 333.33 × 6 = 2000 m Policeman= 416.67×6= 2500 m Relative distance covered by the policeman=2500-2000 = 500 m Initial distance=600 m Distance between them after 6 minutes: =600-500 = 100 m
