Question

The ratio between the marked price and the cost price of

an article is 5: 3. If the selling price of the article is ₹3,024 and the shopkeeper gave two successive discounts of 16% and 20%, then how much is the profit or loss (in ₹)?
A Profit, ₹324 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B Loss, ₹112 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C Loss, ₹216 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D Profit. ₹225 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Let the common ratio be x. Hence, the marked and cost price of the article are 5x and 3x respectively. Final discount percentage after two successive discounts of A% and B%   = (16+20 -(16 × 20) /100) % = 32.8% According to the question, 5x x (1-0.328) = 3024 5x = 4500 x = 900 3x = 2700 Hence, profit made = 3024/2700 = Rs. 324 The profit is Rs. 324
