    Solution

    Female population = 148000 - 78000 = 70000 40% of population are literate, ( 40 / 100 ) × 148000 = 59200 55% of male population are literate, ( 55 / 100 ) × 78000 = 42900 So, literate female population = 59200 - 42900  = 16300 ∴ The literate female population is 16300.
