Let the total capacity of the tank be 144 litres (LCM of 36 and 48)
Efficiency of filling pipe = (144 / 36) = 4 litres/minute
Efficiency of draining pipe = (144 / 48) = -3 litres/minute
Required time = (1/3 × 144) ÷ (4 - 3) = 48 minutes
