    ‘B’ takes 25 hours to empty it. Pipe ‘A’ is opened alone when the tank was empty and after 14 hours pipe ‘B’ is also opened. In how much time will the tank get filled completely?

    Let the total capacity of the tank be 100 units Efficiency of pipe ‘A’ = 100/20 = 5 units/hour Efficiency of pipe ‘B’ = 100/25 = 4 units/hour Tank filled in 14 hours = 14 × 5 = 70 units Therefore, required time taken to fill the remaining tank = (100 – 70)/(5 – 4) = 30 hours Therefore, total time taken = 14 + 30 = 44 hours
