Question
The ratio of income and expenditure of a man is 9 : 7, respectively. If the income and expenditure of the man are increased by 20% and 10% respectively, then find the percentage increase in savings.
Solution
Let the income of the man be Rs. β9xβ So, expenditure = Rs. β7xβ So, savings = 9x β 7x = Rs. β2xβ New income = 9x Γ 1.2 = Rs. β10.8xβ New expenditure = 7x Γ 1.1 = Rs. β7.7xβ New savings = 10.8x β 7.7x = Rs. β3.1xβ So, required percentage increase
= {(3.1x β 2x) / 2x} Γ 100
= 55%
