Question
In a tree plantation, 62% of the trees are pine trees. The
number of oak trees is 45% of the pine trees, and the number of maple trees is 66% of the oak trees. If there are 148.5 maple trees, determine the total number of trees in the plantation.Solution
ATQ,
Let total number of trees in the plantation be 100x
Number of pine trees = 0.62 × 100x = 62x
Number of oak trees = 0.45 × 62x = 27.9x
Number of maple trees = 0.66 × 27.9x = 18.414x
So, 18.414x = 148.5
x = 8.06 (approx)
Total number of trees in the plantation = 100x = 806
