A hostel levies a fixed charge along with an additional charge per student. The total charge for 9 students is Rs. 2400, and for 16 students, it is Rs. 3800. Determine the ratio of the fixed charge to the additional charge per student.
Solution
Let the fixed charge and additional charge per student be Rs. 'x' and Rs. 'y' respectively. ATQ, Total charge for 9 students = Rs. (x + 9y) Or, (x + 9y) = 2400......(I) Total charge for 16 students = Rs. (x + 16y) Or, (x + 16y) = 3800......(II) On subtracting Equation (I) from (II) , we get, So, 7y = 1400 So, 'y' = 200 Also 'x' = 2400 - 9 X 200 = 600 Therefore, required ratio = 600:200 = 3:1
