    A spent 40% and 25% of his monthly salary on food and

    rent, respectively. Of the remaining amount, he gave 22% and 44% to his mother and brother, respectively. Find the amount spent by him on food, if the difference between the amount received by his brother and the amount spent on rent is Rs. 4320.

    Solution

    Let the monthly salary of A be Rs. ‘x’ Amount spent on food = Rs. 0.40x Amount spent on rent = Rs. 0.25x Amount received by brother = (x - 0.4x - 0.25x) x 0.44 = 0.154x So according to question: 0.25x - 0.154x = 4320 0.096x = 4320 x = 45000 So, the amount spent on food = 0.4 x 45000 = Rs. 18000
