Ramesh and Suresh started a business by investing in the ratio 3 : 5, respectively. After 10 months, Ramesh withdrew 1/3rd of his investment, whereas Suresh increased his investment by 20%. If at the end of 20 months, the profit earned by Suresh was Rs. 24,000 more than that by Ramesh, then find the total profit earned by the business.

Let investments be Rs. ‘3x’ and Rs. ‘5x’. Ratio of profit shares: = {(3x × 10) + (3x × 2/3 × 10)} : {(5x × 10) + (5x × 6/5 × 10)} = (30x + 20x) : (50x + 60x) = 50x : 110x = 5 : 11 Let total profit = 16y ATQ: 11y - 5y = 24000 Or, y = 4000 Total profit = 16 × 4000 = Rs. 64,000
