      ‘A’ invested Rs. 3500 in a business. ‘B’ joined

      x months later with an investment of Rs. 2500. If at the end of the year, B’s share in the profit is Rs. 2800 out of a total profit of Rs. 8400, find the value of x.
      A 4 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      B 2 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      C 7 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      D 3 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      According to the question,
      (3500 × 12) : {2500 × (12 – x)} = (8400 – 2800) / 2800
      Or, 42000 : {2500(12 – x)} = 5600 / 2800
      Or, 42000 : {2500(12 – x)} = 2 : 1
      So, 42000 × 1 = 2 × 2500(12 – x)
      42000 = 5000(12 – x)
      42000 = 60000 – 5000x
      5000x = 60000 – 42000
      5000x = 18000
      x = 3.6 months
