Question
Anand started a business with an initial investment of
Rs. 10,800. After a few months, Mohit joined the business with an investment that was Rs. 7,200 more than Anand's investment. At the end of 16 months, the total profit was Rs. 6,480, of which Anand's share was Rs. 2,880. Determine how many months after the start of the business Mohit joined.Solution
Let the number of months for which Mohit invests in the business be 'n' Investment of Mohit = 10,800 + 7,200 = Rs. 18,000 Ratio of profit shares of Anand and Mohit respectively: = (10,800 x 16) :(18,000 x n) = 48:5n Profit share of Mohit = 6,480 - 2,880 = Rs. 3,600 So, 48:5n = 2880:3600 Or, 48:5n = 4:5 So, 'n' = (48/4) = 12 Therefore, Mohit joined the business after (16 - 12) = 4 months.
