ATQ, Let the two original numbers P and Q be 4x and 7x. According to the question, when 18 is added to each number, the new ratio becomes 5:8. So, the new numbers are 4x + 18 and 7x + 18. Now, their ratio is 5:8. So, 8 × (4x + 18) = 5 × (7x + 18). 32x + 144 = 35x + 90. 35x − 32x = 144 − 90. 3x = 54. x = 54 ÷ 3 = 18. Now, the first original number = 4x = 4 × 18 = 72. The second original number = 7x = 7 × 18 = 126. Now, 9 is subtracted from each original number. First resulting number = 72 − 9 = 63. Second resulting number = 126 − 9 = 117. Required sum = 63 + 117 = 180.
