A container was filled with pure milk. A person removed

10 litres of milk and refilled it with water to hide the act. He repeated the same act once again. Later, it was found that the container had 64 litres of milk left. What was the original quantity of milk in the container?
A 80 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 65 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 45 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 95 litres Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    ATQ,

    Let the initial quantity of milk be ‘M’ litres. We use the formula: Milk left = M × {(M - 10)/M}² 64 = M × {(M - 10)/M}² 64M = (M – 10)² 64M = M² – 20M + 100 M² – 84M + 100 = 0 M² – 80M – 4M + 100 = 0 M(M – 80) – 4(M – 80) = 0 (M – 4)(M – 80) = 0 M = 80, 4 Since, quantity of milk left in the container is 48 litres. So, initial quantity of milk cannot be 4 litres. So, initial quantity = 80 litres
