Question
270 litres of mixture 'X' contains milk and honey, only in the ratio 7:2, respectively and 480 litres of mixture 'Y' contains milk and honey, only in the ratio 13:3, respectively. If mixtures 'X' and 'Y' are mixed, then what will be ratio of quantities of milk to that of honey in the resultant mixture?
Solution
ATQ,
Quantity of milk in mixture 'A' = 270 X (7/9) = 210 litres
Quantity of honey in mixture 'A' = 270 - 210 = 60 litres
Quantity of milk in mixture 'B' = 480 X (13/16) = 390 litres
Quantity of honey in mixture 'B' = 480 - 390 = 90 litres
Therefore, required ratio = (210 + 390) :(60 + 90) = 600:150 = 4:1
