Question
Two mixtures, P and Q, have milk-to-honey ratios of 7:5 and
8:9, respectively. When these two mixtures are combined, the total quantity of the final mixture becomes 0.84 liters, with the milk-to-Honey ratio in the final mixture being 37:33. What was the original quantity of mixture Q before mixing?Solution
ATQ;
Let quantity of milk and honey in mixture P and Q is 7x ml and 5x ml and 8y ml and 9y ml respectively.
Quantity of milk in 840 ml of mixture = 37/70 × 840 = 444 ml
Quantity of Honey in 840 ml of mixture = 840 – 444 = 396 ml
So, 7x + 8y = 444
And, 5x + 9y = 396
Solving above equations we get;
x = 36 and y = 24
So, quantity of mixture Q = 24 × 17 = 408 ml
