Question
Two mixtures, A and B, have milk-to-sugar ratios of 5:3 and
6:7, respectively. When these two mixtures are combined, the total quantity of the final mixture becomes 1.2 liters, with the milk-to-sugar ratio in the final mixture being 31:29. What was the original quantity of mixture B before mixing?Solution
ATQ;
Let quantity of milk and sugar in mixture A and B be 5x ml and 3x ml and 6y ml and 7y ml, respectively.
Quantity of milk in 1200 ml of mixture = 31/60 × 1200 = 620 ml
Quantity of sugar in 1200 ml of mixture = 1200 – 620 = 580 ml
So, 5x + 6y = 620
And, 3x + 7y = 580
Solving the above equations, we get;
x = 60 and y = 70
So, quantity of mixture B = 70 × 13 = 910 ml
