Question
Mixture ‘A’ contains 80% acetone and rest 30
litres water. Mixture ‘B’ contains 72 litres acetone and rest 50% water. When two mixtures are mixed, then find the ratio of acetone to water in the resultant mixture.Solution
Quantity of water in mixture ‘A’ = 30 litres Total quantity of mixture ‘A’ = 30/0.2 = 150 litres Therefore, quantity of acetone in mixture ‘A’ = 150 – 30 = 120 litres Quantity of acetone in mixture ‘B’ = 72 litres Total quantity of mixture ‘B’ = 72/0.50 = 144 litres Quantity of water in mixture ‘B’ = 144 – 72 = 72 litres Therefore, quantity of acetone in resultant mixture = 144 + 72 = 192 litres Quantity of water in resultant mixture = 30 + 72 = 102 litres Required ratio = 192:102 = 32:17
