Question
Mixture ‘A’ contains 80% acetone and rest 32 litres
water. Mixture ‘B’ contains 70 litres acetone and rest 50% water. When two mixtures are mixed, then find the ratio of acetone to water in the resultant mixture.Solution
Quantity of water in mixture ‘A’ = 32 litres Total quantity of mixture ‘A’ = 32/0.20 = 160 litres Therefore, quantity of acetone in mixture ‘A’ = 160 – 32 = 128 litres Quantity of acetone in mixture ‘B’ = 70 litres Total quantity of mixture ‘B’ = 70/0.50 = 140 litres Quantity of water in mixture ‘B’ = 140 – 70 = 70 litres Therefore, quantity of acetone in resultant mixture = 128 + 70 = 198 litres Quantity of water in resultant mixture = 70 + 32 = 102 litres Required ratio = 198 : 102 = 33:17
