    Question

A hollow cylindrical container has an inner radius of

5.5 cm, a length of 15 cm, and a thickness of 3 cm. Calculate the volume of the container. (Use π = 22/7)
A 1970 cubic cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 1420 cubic cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 1980 cubic cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 1750 cubic cm Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Outer radius of container = 5.5 + 3 = 8.5 cm

    Volume of hollow cylinder = π X height X [(outer radius)2  - (inner radius)2]

    = (22/7) x 15 x (outer radius + inner radius) X (outer radius - inner radius)

    = (22/7) x 15 x (8.5 + 5.5) X (8.5 - 5.5)

    = (22/7) x 15 x 14 x 3 = 1,980 cm 3
