Question
The length of a 924 metre long
rope is 11 times the perimeter of a rectangular Spanish courtyard. Find the area of the rectangular courtyard given that its length is 4 metres more than its breadth.Solution
ATQ, Let the length and breadth of the courtyard be ‘L’ metres and ‘B’ metres, respectively. Perimeter of the courtyard = (924/11) = 84 metres So, 2 × (L + B) = 84 Or, (L + B) = 42 ATQ; L = B + 4 So, B + 4 + B = 42 Or, 2B = 38 So, B = 19 So, breadth of the courtyard = 19 metres And, length of the courtyard = 19 + 4 = 23 metres So, area of the courtyard = 23 × 19 = 437 m²
