Question
Length and breadth of a rectangular field is (x + 6) cm
and (x – 3) cm, respectively. If the cost of ploughing the field at a rate of Rs. 10 per cm² is Rs. 5000, then find the cost of fencing the field at a rate of Rs. 12 per cm.Solution
ATQ, Area of the field = 5000/10 = 500 cm² So, (x + 6)(x – 3) = 500 Or, x² + 3x – 500 = 0 Or, x² + 25x – 20x – 500 = 0 Or, x(x + 25) – 20(x + 25) = 0 Or, (x + 25)(x – 20) = 0 So, x = 20 Perimeter of the field = 2 × {(20 + 6) + (20 – 3)} = 86 metres Desired cost = 86 × 12 = Rs. 1032
