Question
Inside a square land having perimeter equal to 64
metres, leaving aside a circular land of radius 7 metres, the remaining land needs to be levelled at a cost of 23 rupees per square metre. What is the cost of leveling?Solution
Let the length of each side of the square land = ‘x’ metres Then, perimeter of the land = 4x = 64 metres So, x = (64/4) = 16 So, area of the square land = x2 = 162 = 256 m2 Area of the circular land = π × radius2 = (22/7) × 7 × 7 = 154 m2 Therefore, area to be levelled = 256 – 154 = 102 m2 Cost of leveling = 102 × 23 = Rs. 2346
