    and length of 24 metres. If the area of the land is to be divided into 12 equal portions, then what will be the area (in m2) of each portion

    Solution

    Let the breadth of the land = ‘b’ metres Then, perimeter of the land = 2 × (24 + b) Or, 2 × (24 + b) = 77 Or, 48 + 2b = 77 Or, 2b = 77 – 48 = 29 So, b = 29/2 = 14.5 And so, total area of the land = 24 × 14.5 = 348 m2 So, area of each of the 12 equal portions = 348 ÷ 12 = 29 m2
