Question
Perimeter of a square and circumference of a circle are
in the ratio 14:11, respectively. If area of the square is 196 cm2, then find the radius of the circle. (Take π = 22/7)Solution
Let the perimeter of the square and circumference of the circle be ‘14x’ cm and ‘11x’ cm, respectively. Area of square = a2 (Where ‘a’ is the side of the square) ATQ; 196 = a2 Or, a = 14 cm So, perimeter of the square = 14 × 4 = 56 cm So, circumference of circle = 56 × (11x/14x) = 44 cm Circumference of circle = 2πr (Where ‘r’ is the radius) So, 44 = 2 × (22/7) × r Or, r = 7 cm Therefore, radius of the circle is 7 cm.
