The sum of the perimeters of a square and a rectangle is
120 metres. If the sum of the length and breadth of the rectangle is 28 cm, then find the area of the square. TYPE 17Solution
Perimeter of the rectangle = 2 x 28 = 56 cm Perimeter of the square = 120 – 56 = 64 cm Each side of the square = 64/4 = 16 cm Therefore, area of the square = 162 = 256 cm2
