Question
Find the ratio of Ram’s age to Rahul’s
age. Statement I: Ram’s age is equal to Alok’s age and Alok age is 2 years less than Rahul’s age . Ratio of Rahuls’s age to Ajit’s age is 9:8. Statement II: Sum of Ram’s & Alok’s age is one year less than the sum of Rahul’s age and Ajit’s age.Solution
Statement I
Let the present age of Alok be ‘x’ years.
Ram’s age = Alok’s age = ‘x’ years.
Rahul’s age = (x+2) years
ATQ,
Rahul's age Ajit's age = 9/8
(x+2)/Ajit = 9/8
Ajit’s age = 8/9 x (x+2)
Statement II:
x+x = (x+2) + 8/9 x (x+2)-1
2x = (x+2) x 17/9 -1
2x-(17/9)x = 34/9 -1
x/9 = 25/9
x=25
ALok’s age = Ram’s age = 25 years
Rahul’s age = 25+2 = 27 years
Ajit’s age = (8/9) x 27 = 24 years.
