      Question

      A boat takes 6 hours to cover 132 km in downstream. If

      the ratio of still water speed to downstream speed of boat is 8:11 respectively, then find the time taken by the boat to cover 200 km in upstream.
      A 12 hours Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      B 13 hours Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      C 15 hours Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      D 18 hours Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      E 20 hours Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      Downstream speed of the boat = (132/6) = 22 km/hr

      Let the downstream speed and still water speed of boat be 11x km/hr and 8x km/hr

      ATQ,

      11x = 22

      So, 'x' = 2

      Speed of boat in still water = 8 Γ— 2 = 16 km/hr

      Speed of stream = 22 - 16 = 6 km/hr

      So, upstream speed of boat = 16 - 6 = 10 km/hr

      Therefore, required time = (200/10) = 20 hours
