Let the speed of the stream = x And the speed of the boat in still water = x + 16 48/(x + 16 β x) + 144/(x + 16 + x) = 9 48/16 + 144/(2x + 16) = 9 3 + 144/(2x + 16) = 9 144/(2x + 16) = 6 2x + 16 = 144/6 2x + 16 = 24 2x = 8 x = 4 The speed of the stream = 4 km/hr
