Question

    Boat ‘L’ moves 1.5 times faster than boat ‘K’ in

    still water. If both boats start at the same time from locations 270 km apart and move towards each other in a stream, meeting after 3 hours, what is the speed of boat ‘K’ in still water?
    A 18 km/h Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    B 36 km/h Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    C 24 km/h Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    D 10 km/h Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    ATQ,

    Let the still water speed of boat ‘K’ = y km/h

    Then, still water speed of boat ‘L’ = 1.5 × y = 1.5y km/h

    Let the speed of the stream = x km/h

    Effective speed = y + 1.5y = 2.5y km/h

    So, 2.5y = 270 ÷ 3 = 90

    y = 90 ÷ 2.5 = 36

    Speed of boat ‘K’ in still water = 36 km/h
