Sum of 24 numbers = 24 × 42 = 1008 Sum of 12th and 13th number = 45 × 13 + 39 × 13 – 1008
= 84 × 13 – 1008
= 1092 – 1008
= 84 Desired average = (1008 – 84)/(24 – 2) = 42
