Question
In a training group of 32 members, the average score is 60. One member with a score of 56 leaves, and 4 new members with an average score of 64 join. When the trainer’s score is also included, the average becomes 62. What is the trainer’s score?
Solution
Initial total score = 32 × 60 = 1920
Score of 4 new members = 4 × 64 = 256 Let the trainer’s score be ‘y’
New total score without trainer = 1920 - 56 + 256 + y = (2120 + y)
New total number of people = 32 - 1 + 4 + 1 = 36
New total score = 36 × 62 = 2232
So, trainer’s score = 2232 - 2120 = 112
