Question
The average monthly expense of a family of 5 is ₹25,000. If the highest earning member moves out, the average drops to ₹20,000. Find the monthly expense of the member who left.
Solution
Let the expense of the member who left be ‘x’ ₹. So, x + (25,000 – 5,000) × 4 = 5 × 25,000 x + 20,000 × 4 = 125,000 x + 80,000 = 125,000 x = 125,000 – 80,000 x = ₹45,000 So, monthly expense of the member who left was ₹45,000.
