Question
The mean weight of 20 athletes is 70.2 kg. If weights of
two athletes are excluded, the mean of the remaining becomes 69.5 kg. Calculate the average weight of the two excluded athletes.Solution
ATQ,
Total weight of 20 athletes = 20 × 70.2 = 1404 kg
Total weight after excluding 2 athletes = 18 × 69.5 = 1251 kg
Sum of weights of the 2 athletes = 1404 - 1251 = 153 kg
Average weight of the 2 athletes = 153 ÷ 2 = 76.5 kg
