Question
Seven successive numbers have an average of 59. What is
the total of their lowest and highest numbers?Solution
ATQ,
Take the numbers as: (a - 3), (a - 2), (a - 1), a, (a + 1), (a + 2), (a + 3)
Sum = (a - 3 + a - 2 + a - 1 + a + a + 1 + a + 2 + a + 3)
Average = (7a / 7) = 59
⇒ a = 59
Sum of smallest and biggest = a - 3 + a + 3 = 2a = 2 × 59 = 118
