Question
David Warner has an average score of 82 runs in 140
innings. The highest runs scored by him in an innings exceed his lowest score by 210 runs. If the runs scored in these two innings are removed, then his average decreases by 3. Find the highest runs scored by him in an innings.Solution
ATQ;
Let the highest and lowest runs scored by David Warner be ‘x’ and ‘y’ respectively.
Total runs scored by him in 140 innings = 140 × 82 = 11480
Runs scored by him in 138 innings = (82 - 3) × 138 = 79 × 138 = 10962
So, x + y = 11480 – 10962 = 518
And, x – y = 210
So, x = (518 + 210)/2 = 364
