Question

    Find the remainder on dividing (5x 3  + 4x

    2  – 10x + 1) by (2x – 4).
A 37 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 33 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 31 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 29 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    P(x) = 5x 3  + 4x 2  – 10x + 1

    G(x) = 2x – 4

According to remainder theorem, Put G(x) = 0

    i.e. 2x – 4 = 0

    Or, 2x = 4

    Or, ‘x’ = 2

    Required remainder = P(2)

    = (5 × 2 3 ) + (4 × 2 2 ) – (10 × 2) + 1 = (5 × 8) + (4 × 4) – 20 + 1

    = 40 + 16 – 19 = 37
