Question

    Present age of ‘C’ is 20% more than that of ‘D’.

    3 years ago, ‘C’ was 1.4 times as old as ‘D’. Find the present age of ‘D’.
    A 3 years Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    B 5 years Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    C 6 years Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
    D 8 years Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Let the present age of ‘D’ be ‘x’ years
    Therefore, present age of ‘C’ = 1.2x years
    ATQ;
    (1.2x – 3) = 1.4 × (x – 3)
    Or, 1.2x – 3 = 1.4x – 4.2
    Or, 1.2 = 0.2x
    Or, x = 6
    Therefore, present age of ‘D’ = 6 years
