      Question

      15 years ago, A was 1/3 of B’s age. If the ratio of

      their present ages is 3:4, what will be the sum of their present ages?
      A 42 years Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      B 36 years Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      C 38 years Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      D 40 years Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
      E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      Let the present age of A and B be 3x and 4x respectively. According to question, => 3(3x – 15) = (4x – 15) => 9x – 45 = 4x – 15 => 5x = 30 => x = 6 Present age of A = 3x = 18 yrs And present age of B = 4x = 24 yrs The sum of their present ages = 18 + 24 = 42 years
