For a dispute to be a 'COMMERCIAL DISPUTE' within the meaning of the Commercial Courts Act, 2015, the subject matter must, inter alia:

Section 2(1)(c) of the Commercial Courts Act, 2015 defines a 'COMMERCIAL DISPUTE' by reference to a specified, closed list of subject matters - disputes arising out of ordinary transactions of merchants, BANKERS, FINANCIERS and TRADERS; the supply of goods; intellectual property rights; the partnership; the specific commercial causes - in addition to conforming to the specified value. Criminal, matrimonial, and general land or revenue disputes fall outside unless they are within the enumerated commercial heads. The closed-list definition determines which disputes supervened into commercial courts. The 'ordinary transactions of merchants, bankers and traders' head is the classic inclusion.
