The Legal Metrology Act, 2009, read with the LEGAL METROLOGY (PACKAGED COMMODITIES) RULES, 2011, requires every pre-packaged commodity to carry a mandatory declaration of its NET QUANTITY, the maximum retail price, the name and address of the manufacturer, and the month and year of manufacture/import, among other particulars. These rules protect consumers from misleading or under-filled packaging and enable price transparency. The FSS Act governs food safety, and the CPC civil procedure.
