Section 24 of the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020, dealing with welfare facilities, empowers the appropriate Government to require the provision of a crèche in every establishment wherein fifty or more workers are ordinarily employed. The crèche must be maintained in a suitable room for the use of children under the age of six years of such workers, with adequate facilities for their care. Mothers are to be allowed to visit the crèche a prescribed number of times during working hours. Both male and female workers are entitled to use the facility for their children. This provision extends and standardises the crèche requirement across establishments, going beyond the earlier factory-specific mandate.
