SBI Law Officer Recruitment 2026

SBI Law Officer Recruitment 2026 notification has been officially released by the State Bank of India, Central Recruitment & Promotion Department (CRPD) on June 24, 2026. The recruitment is for two posts namely, the Assistant Manager (Law) in JMGS-I and Deputy Manager (Law) in MMGS-II — on a regular basis across India.

Online registration and payment of fees are open from June 24 June 2026 to July 14, 2026. The selection process consists of an Online Written Test (tentatively in August 2026) followed by an Interview, with final merit calculated as Written Test 70% + Interview 30%.

SBI has notified two law specialist posts under this recruitment cycle, both at Scale I and Scale II levels on a regular basis.

SBI Law Officer 2026 Vacancy

SBI has announced a total of 49 vacancies across both posts under Advertisement No. CRPD/SCO/2026-27/02. The vacancy breakup by post and category is as follows:

The number of vacancies including reserved vacancies is provisional and may vary according to the actual requirements of the Bank. PwBD reservation is horizontal and included within the overall category vacancy. Candidates belonging to reserved categories for whom no reservation has been mentioned are free to apply under the Unreserved category, provided they fulfil all applicable eligibility conditions.

SBI Law Officer 2026 Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit (As on May 31, 2026)

The age limit for both posts is calculated as on the cut-off date of May 31, 2026. The maximum age indicated is for Unreserved category candidates; reserved category candidates are eligible for relaxation as per Government of India norms.

Age Relaxation

Candidates belonging to reserved categories are eligible for relaxation in the upper age limit as per the table below. Cumulative age relaxation is not applicable under any combination of categories.

Educational Qualification (As on May 31, 2026)

Both posts require a graduate degree in Law or a Law Graduate from a recognized university in India as the mandatory qualification. Candidates with a 5-year integrated law course from a recognized university in India may be given preference.

Work Experience

Work experience is mandatory for both posts and must be post-enrolment with the Bar Council. The experience requirement differs by post level, as detailed in the table below.

The experience certificate from the employer must specifically confirm that the candidate held experience in the relevant field as required.

SBI Law Officer 2026 Selection Process

The selection for both posts will be conducted in two stage. Admission to all stages is purely provisional subject to satisfying the prescribed eligibility conditions.

• Stage 1: Online Written Test (tentatively August 2026)
• Stage 2: Interview
• Final Merit Formula: Written Test (70%) and Interview (30%)

The final merit list will be prepared based on normalised marks scored in the Online Written Test and Interview with a 70:30 weightage respectively.

SBI Law Officer 2026 Exam Pattern

The Online Written Examination consists of two parts an Objective Type Test and a Descriptive Type Test, each carrying 50 marks. Candidates must qualify in both tests individually; the merit list will be prepared based on the combined total score.

Online Written Examination Structure

Objective Test Pattern

The Objective Test is divided into General Aptitude and Professional Knowledge. General Aptitude covers Test of Reasoning and English Language and is qualifying in nature; marks scored in this section will not be counted for arriving at the merit.

Only the Professional Knowledge paper marks are reckoned for the merit list. There is no negative marking for wrong answers in the Online Written Examination.

Descriptive Test Pattern

The Descriptive Test consists of 8 questions, out of which candidates must attempt any 5. Each question carries 10 marks for a total of 50 marks, to be completed in 45 minutes. Minimum qualifying marks in the Descriptive Test will be decided by the Bank.

SBI Law Officer 2026 Grade, Pay Scale & Posting

Selected candidates will be placed in the pay scales applicable to their respective grades as per SBI Service Rules. In addition to basic pay, officers will be eligible for DA, HRA, CCA, Provident Fund, NPS, Leave Fare Concession (LFC), Medical Facility, and other perquisites as per rules in force from time to time.
