      Solution

Section 143A (inserted by the 2018 amendment) empowers the court trying an offence under Section 138 to order the drawer to pay interim compensation to the complainant. Sub-section (2) caps this interim compensation at twenty per cent of the amount of the cheque. It is payable within sixty days of the order (extendable by thirty days). If the drawer is acquitted, the complainant must repay it with interest.
