A Silicon Controlled Rectifier (SCR) is a semiconductor switching device that belongs to the thyristor family. It is built with four layers of alternating P and N material (PNPN) , which form three junctions. It has three terminals : anode, cathode, and gate. The SCR remains in the OFF state until a gate pulse is applied, after which it conducts current from anode to cathode as long as it is forward biased.
